Super Kids 4 – Day Five

Today was the last day of summer youth camps!  We said goodbye to over 200 Super Kids after a really fun Closing Rally, which celebrated not only an amazing week of summer camp, but an amazing summer of ministry!

Campers and parents started off the Closing Rally by watching the slideshow and video show in the Main Hall.  Then, we headed out to the Steps of the Faith.  Campers showed off some of our favorite songs from the week (The Hippo Song, and the Butterfly Song).  Then it was time to hand out prizes for Polar Dip, Gorilla Gets the Man, and the fishing competition!

After prizes, we heard a little bit from our speaker, Darla, who encouraged campers to remember that they were made by God, with His own hands.  She wanted them to remember that God made them to be special, not because of anything that they can do, but because of who He says they are.

Then it was time to hear from Bobber Bill!  We took a Love Offering for two summer camps in Ukraine that Camp Lebanon has been supporting for years.  We also got to see the summer-long characters one last time, and see their story resolve.

Then it was time for every camper’s favorite part of the Closing Rally – PIES!  Every camper gets the chance to memorize verses all week, and if they say the verses to their counselor, they get their name in the bucket to possibly get to pie a staff member of their choice!  Staff say verses too, and also get to pie someone.

It was a grand finale to a grand summer!  It’s hard to believe that summer 2019 is already over.  Thank you, God, for a really great Super Kids 4…and a really great SUMMER!

Super Kids 4 – Day Four

In last night’s chapel, Bobber Bill visited to tell us more about The Creator’s Book!  We learned about the Bible (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!), like how many books it has, how chapters and verses work, and how it is a Love Letter from God to us: a rescue plan to save His lost people!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Read 2 Timothy 3:16.  Practice finding some verses with your camper – start with John 3:16 (or any of the other verses campers memorized this week)!  Ask your camper what the message of the Bible is – what is God’s rescue plan?  How is the Bible a love letter to His Creation?

The last full day of Super Kids 4 began with beautiful, cool weather and partly-cloudy skies.  Campers woke up, cleaned their cabins, went to Polar Dip (brrr!) and headed down for Flag Raising and breakfast.  We had French Toast sticks, sausage, and fruit for breakfast today!

Then it was time for Morning Chapel.  This morning, Rich Olson, Camp Lebanon’s Director of Youth & Family, gave campers a mission – to go out into nature and find cool things with their cabin!  It was a time for campers and their counselors to go exploring and see what kinds of fun things they could discover in God’s Creation!

After Chapel, it was time for morning Options & Cabin Adventure.  For Options, campers could pick from different activities throughout Camp to do.  Then, for Cabin Adventure, counselors were in charge of leading their cabin in a fun group activity.

Then it was time for lunch line-up and lunch!  Today’s meal was ham & cheese sandwiches, tater tots, salad, and tapioca pudding and fruit for dessert.  When lunch was over, it was time for another skit!  Then campers went to their cabins to get their mail and have some rest time (Toes-Up Time).

After Toes-Up, Free Time began!  The sun peeked out from behind the clouds and gave us a beautiful sunny afternoon for swimming, ziplining, laser tagging, and crafting!  Not to mention canteen treating, carpetballing, octoballing, and 4-squaring!  Our summer staff has seen these campers just having the most joyful laughter all week, going all out and having the most fun they can.  It’s been a great finale to the summer, and we are sad to see summer youth camps coming to a close.

After Free Time, we lined up for Flag Lowering and dinner.  The last night is always PIZZA night, so we all had a pizza party in the Dining Hall.  Then it was time for our last Chapel with Darla.  Tonight, Darla talked about how our Creator is still creating!  He is continuing to hold the universe together, creating new life and making new Christians!  Not only that, but He is getting heaven ready for us.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Darla told campers that we can have 3 things because of Jesus – can your camper remember what they are?  (Peace, Help, and Hope).  God is preparing a place for us!  Take some time to imagine with your camper about what heaven might be like.  What are some things that make us say “wow” that might be even more awesome when we get to heaven?

After Chapel, we had some extended Free Time/Canteen Time to fit in some extra zipline and laser tag sessions.  Then it was time to get ready for the Campfire Trek!  Campers and counselors will head out to Bass Point for our end-of-week Campfire, where we’ll sing some silly campfire songs, play Gorilla Gets the Man, and maybe even go on a Lion Hunt.

Tomorrow, parents arrive to pick up campers.  It’s hard to believe that our youth camp season is coming to and end – we’ve had an incredible summer!  Tomorrow, we’ll show a video recap of the week, give out prizes, and send these wonderful Super Kids off!

Super Kids 4 – Day Three

In last night’s chapel, Darla talked about our Creator and how He came to our rescue.  When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, that meant that all of Creation needed a savior.  We were separated from God because of Sin, but our Creator (whose name is JESUS) became human and died to save us.  God loves us and invites us to say YES! to Jesus.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Read Genesis 3; John 1:1-18; 3:16-18.  Ask your camper if they can give some examples of how sin separates us from God and why Creation needed a rescue plan.  What does it mean to say “yes” to Jesus?

On to day three of Super Kids 4!  Campers woke up today to Polar Dip, clean their cabins, and gather for Flag Raising and breakfast.  Then it was time for Morning Chapel with Darla.  This morning, Darla talked about how we are Alive in the Creator.

After Morning Chapel, campers had some Free Time & Cabin Adventure before lunch time.  Today’s lunch was nachos in a boat, where campers could choose their own nacho toppings.  After lunch, we saw another skit from the summer-long characters, who were up to  more hilarious antics.  Then campers went back to their cabins to get today’s mail and have some Toes-Up Time before the big game.

Today’s game is Clue, which is basically a live-action version of the classic board game.  Staff play different characters, scattered all over camp.  Cabins work together as a team to travel between the different characters and solve the mystery based on the answers each staff member has to their questions.  It’s a really fun way to kick-off Free Time!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about the game of Clue.  What were some of the characters they interacted with during the game?  What was the mystery, and did they find out what happened?

Free Time usually opens up swimming, zipline, and laser tag, but today we had a bit of a rain storm as the afternoon began.  Campers broke out their umbrellas and rain jackets, and some just enjoyed puddle jumping and playing in the rain.  After we hadn’t heard thunder for a while, the beach and zipline opened up again.  Campers who missed their laser tag slot will be able to reschedule for later during evening Free Time.

After Free Time, we gathered for Flag Lowering and dinner line-up!  Tonight we had burgers, fries, and chocolate malts!  Right after dinner, it was time for the Carnival!  The Camp Lebanon Carnival is a really fun event for campers to play games run by staff, eat cotton candy, listen to fun music, and earn tickets to pay for dunking their counselor in the dunk tank!

When the Carnival is over, campers will get a little evening Free Time & Canteen before evening Chapel with Darla!  We’ll fill you in on tonight’s chapel in tomorrow’s blog post.  Until then, continue to follow the story throughout the week – follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  And download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Super Kids 4 – Day Two

We’ve had a great first full day of Super Kids 4!  Campers woke up early this morning, and some went down to the Waterfront to participate in the Polar Dip.  If they wanted to, campers could get into their swimsuits and take a quick dip in the chilly morning water.  If they do it every morning this week, they will get a prize on the last day!

Then it was time for Flag Raising and breakfast!  Campers get to sign up with their cabin to help raise and lower the flag each day, before the morning and evening meals.  After breakfast, campers went back to the cabin with their counselors to clean the cabin and get ready for the Camp Picture!  We took a big group photo on the Steps of Faith.  Here’s the goofy one we took at the end:

IMG_1516

Then it was time for Morning Chapel.  Darla talked to campers about the Awesome Creation, speaking out of the Genesis 1.  We learned all about how God Created everything in 6 days, out of NOTHING!  He made us in His image, which makes us all special.  Because of our Awesome Creator, we can know that God is powerful and life has purpose!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Read Genesis 1:1, 31.  Talk to your camper about what it might mean to be made in God’s image.  How does it feel to know that God looked at all of His Creation (including us!) and called it VERY good?  Take some time to talk about some of your favorite parts of God’s Awesome Creation – name some things that make you say “Wow!”

Morning Chapel was followed by some Free Time and Cabin Adventure!  For Free Time, campers could enjoy some of the fun things around Camp (except for swimming).  Lots of campers went fishing, several went down to play a game of Wiffleball, and others played 4-square or Octoball.

For Cabin Adventures, counselors plan a fun activity to do just as a cabin.  Some campers made posters with their cabin, two boy cabins teamed up to play Wiffleball, and much more!  Campers will have cabin adventures every day, so they’ll get to do lots of fun things with their cabin mates.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  What are some of the cabin adventures that your camper went on with their cabin?  Did they do any other fun activities just with their cabin group during their week at Camp?  What was their favorite cabin activity?

Then it was time for lunch!  We had yummy chicken strips, mac ‘n’ cheese, salad, and fruit for dessert.  After lunch, campers went to the Steps of Faith to watch a skit, with characters that we met yesterday during our intro.  These characters will be visiting us all week!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Can your camper tell you more about the summer-long characters?  What were all of their names?  What were they trying to do, and what plan did they have?  Did they succeed?

After the skit, campers went back to their cabins to get their Monday mail and to have a little bit of Toes-Up Time before Free Time!  But to kick off our Free Time, we hiked up to the North 40 Field for some Field Games.  Most of them were relays, and even with a little bit of a drizzly rain, we had a great time running around in the grass!

Then, of course, it was time for the usual fun of Free Time – swimming, zipline, crafts, and laser tag!

After Free Time, it was time for dinner!  We had pasta, red sauce, meatballs, and salad, with cheesecake in a cup for dessert.  Then it was time for a fun game of Capture the Flag (with a twist), played all over main Camp!  After Capture the Flag, campers will have some Canteen Time/Free Time before evening Chapel, where we will hear another talk from our speaker, Darla!

We’ll update you on tonight’s chapel in tomorrow’s blog.  Until then, continue to follow the story throughout the week – follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  And download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Super Kids 4 – Day One

Our last week of summer youth camp has begun!  We are so excited for these Super Kids to be here.  Campers arrived and met their counselors, some took their swim tests, others hung out on the Hub or in their cabins, getting to know their fellow campers.  After everyone had arrived, we all gathered on the Steps of Faith to greet the campers officially and introduce them to the Summer Staff members that will be hanging out with them all week.

Then it was time for Flag Lowering and dinner time!  Campers had a yummy meal of sub sandwiches, chips, veggies, juice boxes, and a brownie.  Then it was time for everyone to head to the chapel to hear the rules of the week before being dismissed by cabin to take a tour of Camp.  The tour gives campers the chance to ask questions about the week, find important locations at Camp, and generally get ready for a week of the Funnest Fun!

Campers grabbed their Bibles and headed in to the first Chapel of the week, with our speaker, Darla Benjamin!  Darla introduced herself to campers and then played “Seeing God” Bingo with them.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about “Seeing God” Bingo – how did the game work?  What are some of the things in Creation that make your camper say “Awesome!”  If you would like an activity to do together, make up your own bingo game about Creation and have fun!

After Chapel, it was time for some Canteen Time and Free Time before the Staff Variety Show!  Campers had some snacks and played 4-square, 9-square, and Octoball on the Hub before crowding in to the Chapel again for a fun show put on by the summer staff.  Our staff have created some really fun skits to perform for the campers – a great way to begin Super Kids 4, with laughter!

Campers are heading to bed soon, and will be well-rested for their first full day of summer camp tomorrow morning!  Don’t forget to follow the story throughout the week – follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  And download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Junior High 3 – Day Six

Today is the last day of Junior High 3, and the last Junior High summer camp of 2019!  We have had such an amazing week with these campers – they’ve truly made our last week of Junior High camp a wonderful time and we will miss them.  But we are excited to send them off into the next year, having spent a week learning more about their Awesome Creator.

Parents arrived today at around 10am for the Closing Rally, which started in the Main Hall with a video show and slideshow!  Then we all went out to the Steps of Faith for the rest of the rally.  Campers received prizes for doing Polar Dip, Gorilla Gets the Man, and the week-long fishing competition.  We sang some fun songs and took a Love Offering for summer camps that Camp Lebanon supports in Ukraine.

Nate Miller, our speaker for the week, gave campers a reminder of the things that they learned this week and a challenge going forward into the school year.  Then it was time to encounter our summer-long characters one more time, with a resolution to their adventure.

Then the moment every camper was waiting for (and every staff member was dreading)…pies!  Campers say memory verses throughout the week for a chance to pick a staff member to pie in the face.  Two campers and one staff are chosen out of a bucket of names each week and get to pick their victim.  After hearing proper pie-ing technique from Rich Olson, the Director of Youth and Family, pies fly!

What an incredible week of summer camp!  It’s hard to believe it is over, but we can’t wait to see these campers again next summer and to hear about how God continues to use them in the lives of their friends and family.

Junior High 3 – Day Five

In last night’s chapel, Nate talked about how God defines us.  Nate talked about how we all desire to be known and to know who we are.  We sometimes define ourselves by things that world says about us, things we achieve, or what are friends and family think.  But God is the one that defines who we are.  We looked at 2 Corinthians 5:17, which says that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”  This is what Jesus says about us!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk with your camper about what it means to be a “new creation.”  Sometimes we don’t feel like it, but we can still choose to live according to that identity in Christ.  Ask you camper about some ways that they see this play out in their lives.  Nate asked campers the question “Who are you?” and had them respond with truth from scripture.  Ask your camper the same question and discuss the responses!

This morning, campers got to sleep in an extra hour for Sleep In Day!  Then we had a delicious morning meal – breakfast tacos!  Campers had their TAG time (Time Alone with God), and went to Morning Chapel next.  Morning Free Time was a bit shorter today, and led right in to lunch.  Then campers went to Mail Call – today’s was a video in the Chapel, a continuation of the story that is being told all week.  Then the last round of Clinics & Seminars for the summer.  So many staff were sad to say goodbye to the clinics & seminars they have been teaching all summer, as this is the last week they will be leading them.

Then it was time for Free Time!  Campers made the most of the last day of Camp and the gorgeous weather (but really, Camp has been absolutely wonderful weather-wise all week – we are so thankful!).  There were plenty of campers on the waterfront today, but also quite a few in the Craft Room, working on some of the different craft options that have been provided all week by our Craft Coordinator.

And, of course, the waterfront was busy too!  Our photographers had a great time capturing several impressive leaps from the high dive.

Tonight was PIZZA NIGHT for dinner, with huge, gooey chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  After dinner, campers went to Chapel.  In tonight’s chapel service, Nate continued to talk about how God defines us.  Specifically, he encouraged campers to know that they were created for a purpose.  When we know what God says about us, we can also begin to understand who He has made us to be.  Nate continued the list of things that God says about us, and called campers to be passionate about sharing what Jesus has done in their lives.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Read 1 Peter 2:9 with your camper.  What are some of the other things that God says about who we are?  Talk to your camper about their passions – the things that make them excited.  Discuss some ways that they can use those things that they love to share the love of Jesus with others.

After Chapel, campers had some Cabin Time and evening Free Time (plus Canteen), and put on their long sleeves and long pants for the hike out to the Campfire at Bass Point!  At the Campfire, we traditionally sing songs, play a round of Gorilla Gets the Man, and hear another word from our speaker of the week.  Since it is getting darker earlier now, campers will also get a great view of the stars tonight!

Tomorrow, parents arrive for the Closing Rally at 10am, where we’ll show a video recap of the week, give out prizes, and send these wonderful Junior Highers off!

Junior High 3 – Day Four

Last night in chapel, Nate talked about the topic “God saved.”  He asked campers to think of a time that they felt really stuck or powerless, and told the story of getting his minivan stuck on an ATV trail.  He then talked about how all humans are stuck in sin, and we need to be saved.  We can trust in the Creator for eternal life.  Jesus, who is the Creator (the wind and waves obeyed Him), cam to rescue us and show us God’s love.  He came to live, serve, love, and die to cancel the debt of sin.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to tell you the story Nate told of the minivan stuck on the trail.  Read Genesis 3:1-13 & John 1:1-4, 9-12, 14. Talk with your camper about some of the ways that we see the world being stuck in sin.  What about in your own lives?  Read some verses – Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, & 10:9.  What is the message of these verses?  What is the good news in response to Adam and Eve’s Fall?

Wednesday morning, campers went about their usual activities – polar dipping, breakfasting, cabin cleaning, and spending time alone with God.  Then it was time for another morning chapel, followed by morning Free Time.

After Free Time, campers went to lunch – today’s meal was ham & cheese sandwiches, tater tots, salad, and apples for dessert.  Campers went to watch another skit at the Steps of Faith after lunch, and to collect their Wednesday mail.  Then it was again time for Clinics & Seminars before FREE TIME!

Today for Free Time, lots of campers hung out in the water or near the water, enjoying the pleasant breeze off of the lake.  Still more campers headed up for their zipline or laser tag slots.  At 4 o’clock, the Option was Ultimate on the North 40 Field.  Campers who were into crafting could make washi tape or watercolor clocks in the Craft Room!

Then it was time for dinner, followed by chapel.  Look for a chapel recap in tomorrow’s blog.  After Chapel, campers will have some Cabin Time, where their counselor will plan a fun activity for the cabin to do together.  After that, campers get some evening Free Time (with Canteen), before gearing up for a big Night Game!  Tonight’s game is called Bible Smuggler!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  What were some of the activities your camper did with their cabin throughout the week?  Ask your camper about the Bible Smuggler game.  What were the goals of the game, and what was their favorite part?

Junior High 3 – Day Three

Last night in chapel, Nate Miller talked about how we are loved by the Awesome Creator, the God who made it all.  He did a deep dive into Psalm 8 with the campers and talked about how our weakness shows God’s strength and our smallness shows His greatness.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to talk about Psalm 8.  Read it together.  Why should we praise the Creator?  What does it mean to praise?  What are some ways that we can praise God throughout our days?

Today is a big day at Junior High Camp!  It’s Volleyball Tournament day, so everyone is preparing for the big event tonight after dinner.  Campers and their counselors get to come up with a team uniform, team cheers, and develop their strategy for playing in the tournament.  We can’t wait to see what the evening brings!

This morning, campers woke up to a beautiful, sun-shiney day at Camp.  Polar Dip, Breakfast, and TAG Time happened as usual, followed by the split guys and girls Morning Chapel.  Then campers had some more Morning Free Time & Cabin Time.

W00_0074

In true “Taco Tuesday” fashion, we had nachos for lunch today!  Campers could grab chips and pick their toppings, all in a nice paper boat.  Then it was time for Mail Call – another skit from the story of our summer-long characters.  Then another round of Clinics & Seminars, with completely different options than we had yesterday.

On to Free Time!  It was a gorgeous day, with temps reaching the mid 80s!  That meant lots of campers spending time in the lake, or enjoying the breeze as they zipped down the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline.  Laser Taggers & Crafters enjoyed the shade of the laser tag field or the Craft Room, while others chilled out with their Canteen treats on the Hub and played Octoball or 4-square.

Then it was time for dinner!  Tonight meal was brats, chips, veggies, potato salad, and baked beans!  After dinner, we all hiked up to the North 40 to start the epic Volleyball Tournament.

Campers played on teams with their cabin, using face paint and color-coordinated clothing to get into the team spirit.  Music was blaring from the loud speakers, there were practice volleyballs for campers to toss around between games, plus carpetball and 9-square to play.  The night started off as the sun was bright on the field, and went into golden hour as the final teams battled it out for the win!

When the last game was over, campers came back to main Camp to get cleaned up and ready for Chapel.  The Canteen opened, and campers hung out on the Hub, playing games and waiting for the bell to ring for evening Chapel.

More on tonight’s chapel in tomorrow’s blog post! Until then, continue following the story of Camp this week.  Follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Junior High 3 – Day Two

It’s been a great day of Junior High summer camp!  Campers woke up this morning, got ready for the day (for some, that included jumping into the lake for the Polar Dip!), and headed down for Flag Raising and breakfast.  After breakfast, campers each went off for some TAG Time (“Time Alone with God”), using some devotional sheets provided by our speaker for the week.  This is a chance for campers to spend time reading the Bible, praying, and enjoying being outside in God’s Awesome Creation as they start the day.

After TAG Time, campers gathered at the Steps of Faith for our big group photo!  Here’s one of the goofy ones that we took:

IMG_9892

Then it was time for Morning Chapel.  Campers split into guys and girls for these chapel sessions, with guys up in the Eagle’s Nest and girls down in the Chapel.  Each day, they’ll hear a different staff member talk on a specific topic, and then have a chance to do some discussion as a cabin.

Before lunch, campers had some Free Time and Cabin Time.  Campers mostly spent time on the main Hub of Camp, playing 4-square, 9-square, volleyball, and Octoball.  Some campers went down to the Lower Field to play Wiffleball.

Lunch today was chicken strips, mac ‘n’ cheese, & salad!  After lunch, campers had Mail Call at the Steps of Faith, where they got to meet the summer-long characters and watch a funny skit.  Then they went right in to our Clinics and Seminars.  This week, campers will get to pick from a different set of Clinics and Seminars each day – some active options, and some more discussion/classroom style.  This gives campers the chance to pick a topic that interests them specifically.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk to your camper about their Clinics & Seminars.  What did they choose to attend?  Can they teach you some of the things that they learned?

Then it was time for FREE TIME!  Campers had nearly 3 full hours of Free Time today, and there was plenty to do.  The swimming area was open, campers could go fishing out on Pontoons with the help of Fishing Grandparents, Laser Tag and Zipline were open, and the Craft Room had some really fun creative options today!

Free Time ended with a bell for Flag Lowering.  Each night, a different cabin signs up to lower the flag (they can also sign up to raise it in the morning).  After the flag is lowered, there will sometimes be an Amphitheatric.  Tonight, four campers volunteered for the Post-It Note game.  Then everyone headed in to the Dining Hall for dinner – pasta, meatballs, salad, and cheesecake-in-a-cup!

After dinner, there’s more fun to be had!  Tonight, campers played a big Camp game called Clue (which works a lot like the board game, but all over Camp and with staff members dressing up as different characters).  Then they will have a little bit of Free Time and Canteen Time before Chapel at 8:30.  We’ll recap the chapel session in tomorrow’s blog.  Until then, continue following the story of Camp this week.  Follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!
